Streams Return Tonight! 5K Officially Complete!
I survived!

Heroes, it's back to normal (until the week of April 20th). Streams fire back up tonight. As a reminder, the weekly menu:

  • Tuesday ~ 9:30 PM CDT, Final Fantasy XIV
  • Thursday ~ 9:30 PM CDT, Assassin's Creed III
  • Sunday – 2:00 PM CDT (but we are taking Easter off!)

Friendly reminder: the 9:30 PM CDT start times are aspirational because kids' baseball and life!

Thanks to multiple company matches, and a few donations here and there, I'm now under $130 away from $2,000. That will unlock another super-boss that I have to down in Expedition 33 (with 100x HP...). Every super-boss I fail to kill by the end of the year adds 10% to my overall death tax for that game.

5K in the Books

Last week, while working at our Vegas trade show, I knocked out an official 5K.

My legs were absolute bricks from the work week, but I survived and hit a PR. Granted, practically everyone else that participated in the 5K was apparently in actual shape and hadn't just started running in January, so I ended up near the bottom of the rankings.

I don't care. I survived. My goal was 40 minutes and I damn near broke it--even having to walk a couple stretches when my calves locked up!

I'm less than two weeks away from my 10K on April 12. I have no earthly idea how I'm pulling this off without crawling to the finish line. My 4 mile run on Sunday was brutally bad.

However, this is a new week and I've actually gotten rest (aka, not running around like a madman all day long at a trade show). I have to run 5 miles this Sunday and that's my final endurance training run before I taper off to make the 10K happen.

I'm hoping that I can land in the 80-90 minute range, but just like the 5K, I just want to finish. I've never run distances like this before in my life.

I both curse myself for coming up with this bit, but also tell myself repeatedly "this is for Aven" when I'm gassed. He fought a much harder fight than a silly little endurance run as do many kids at CMN Hospitals.

I can't thank y'all enough for your support. You make a huge difference for Oklahoma's kids!
