Races Done. Let’s Fan Fest.
This past Sunday, I ran my second 5K (hitting a personal best, no less). Logging well over 100 miles run this year and effectively going well past a mile for every $1,000 raised all time without really intending to.

The time has come to give my legs a rest for a bit. I developed a nasty shin splint that definitely needs time to heal.
I’ve learned a lot over the past few months. I still hate running, but begrudgingly admit the benefits outweigh my dislike. I can push myself harder than I thought at 40+. I also discovered walking intervals are not only a valid strategy but help beginners like me with faster pacing.
I also came to a realization that, if I had kept this $5K for 5K and $10K for 10K bit going, I actually did all the races that I needed to for not just two years ago, but last year as well.
Folks have already asked what it will take for me to run races again. I fear I’ve found another bit. At least this one is actually good for me.
From here on out $5K raised makes me sign up for a 5K. $10K, I run a 10K. If y’all manage to really go bonkers and hit $20K, I’ll do a half marathon.
Get to work.
FFXIV Fan Fest
I’m writing this edition of the newsletter in Anaheim where the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest kicks off by the time this newsletter hits inboxes. The event will also kick off a well-earned week-plus of vacation for me.
While my socials will be flooded with all kinds of photos and hype of the event, and the newly announced expansion, I’ll also be walking around seeing if I can find other Warriors of Light that Extra Life, perhaps grab some donations, and who knows, maybe someone signs up after talking to me.
Keep an eye on the donation page. While I’m waiting for the keynote to kick off, I’ll be thinking of FFXIV-specific incentives as Tuesday will see a new chapter of the main story, a new dungeon, and new trail.
And since I’m off work, I might just have some streams while people are awake. I thought I’d have that schedule by now, but this past week of work has been full-go. Quite frankly, I’m not even going to think about a streaming schedule for the week until Fan Fest is over and I’m getting ready to head home on Sunday.
I’m incredibly excited for the break, a new (painful) gimmick, and having a week to do more streaming to make a big change for all kids!
