Schedule Changes, Fanatics Promotion, and More!

Hello Heroes!

It's been far too long since I've written an Extra Life newsletter and I have a lot of news to share.

The biggest is that my traditional 24-hour marathon has a new date: the weekend of November 13-15. As of this writing, I plan to start in the evening hours on Saturday, November 14. I need to iron a couple more things out before it's officially official, but I'd say I'm 90% sure at this point.

This scheduling change is brought to you by a surprise fall baseball tournament that I didn't know would exist. It will run from November 6-8, making my original start time of November 7 impossible.

Youth sports, and mother nature, will also make my Sunday schedules crazier than usual. I have a rainout reschedule this Sunday right in the middle of my usual Minecraft stream time. There are two more games to make up and the league has told us Sunday afternoons are the most likely makeup times.

As always, the best way to for sure make sure to not miss a stream is following me on Twitch, YouTube, or Facebook so you can be notified when I go live.

So this was a fun surprise. Extra Life is kicking off our Champions Quest season, which is basically a big fundraising push that ends around the traditional Game Day weekend.

Part of this push is a new incentive for donors. If you donate $60 (or more) to an Extra Life campaign you receive a 20% off coupon code from Fanatics. Not only that, when you use the code, a portion of that purchase goes right back to Children's Miracle Network.

The holiday season is just around the corner, so grab that sports fan in your life some new gear (or grab some for yourself because your team is still in the MLB playoffs, making a case for the CFB Playoffs, or kicking off hockey/basketball season!). Get yourself a discount, and make a big change for kids while doing so.

Expedition 33 Incentive Updates

With my 24 hour marathon creeping ever closer, I've made massive strives in Expedition 33. The 100x enemy health challenge that y'all forced on me has been no joke. Boss fights are 20 minutes minimum. Trash fights can range from 5-10 minutes.

It's a lot in a game that already provides a challenge!

But the focus during my Game Day marathon isn't to beat the game (I'm well on track to easily accomplish that). It's to beat the super bosses. Every $1,000 raised means another big bad to take down.

Here's where we stand (unlocked fights in bold):

  • $1,000 - Sprong
  • $2,000 - Serpenphare
  • $3,000 - 33 Trails of the Endless Tower
  • $4,000 - Clea
  • $5,000 - Simon
  • $6,000 - Esquio
  • $7,000 - Endless Tower - Chromatic Lampmaster
  • $8,000 - Endless Tower - Duolistes
  • $9,000 - Endless Tower - Clea Unleashed
  • $10,000 - Endless Tower - Simon the Divergent Star

As of this writing, I'm $354 from being forced to take on Simon. With his HP multiplied by 100, there's no way that I can cheese and skip his phases like my first victory. I'm also going to have to learn how to properly parry against Clea, because a lucky burn won't save me this time.

For an example of just how brutal the 100x HP penalty is, take a look at this shit:

I did over 72 million damage (a new personal record) on a single attack, and it's barely 14% of total health for this sub-boss.

Originally, I wanted to have a death tax and a 10% penalty for each super-boss that I couldn't defeat. Unfortunately, that won't be financially feasible this year and the amount of deaths that I'm going to rack up will be absurd.

Don't worry, there will be punishment. I just need to think of a different bit.

Introducing the Midlife Irish

For a rare non-Extra Life note, I know many of you have been around since my days at Her Loyal Sons or are college football fans in general. So I think a solid part of this group may just be interested to hear that I'm writing again.

It's minimum one newsletter a week. The first newsletter of every month is completely free. Remaining newsletters for the month will have a section as a free preview thereafter, with full access unlocked at $3/month or $30/year.

If you have to pick between that or Extra Life, please pick Extra Life every time!

Right now, it's very college football and Notre Dame heavy. As that offseason hits, there will be more non-football sports and writing about life.

Don't expect things to get very in-depth. The hook (or attempted hook) this time around is how I experience things through the lens of a 40-something dad of two kids very involved in their own sports.

I'm having a lot of fun, I hope you come join the ride whether free or paid!
