MiracleCon 2023 Recap

Aka, the reason this newsletter is a day late!

Apologies for the delay in the newsletter. This past weekend was a bit busy with MiracleCon (and also a detour on the way home to visit my nephew at OU).

Half of the main game room at MiracleCon. On the other side of the air wall was our video game & kids room and to the left was a huge vendor area. Check out the all my photos of the event here.

The event was a huge success. We don’t have a final number on the amount raised, but it’s looking like we will be in the $3,000-$4,000 range during this single day event. You should definitely check out my full the event to get a good idea of just how much we had there (and I didn’t get everything, trust me!).

MiracleCon is unapologetically a family event, which means my kids come along for this ride. Not only that, Aven’s family comes too. They have two young boys close to my two and they go bonkers over the weekend. With Mrs. Tex also taking this time to enjoy quality time with her old college roommate, bedtimes go out the window, kids run around all over the place, and before I know it, I’m beyond gassed for the best reasons.

It’s an incredibly unique convention and I hope it never changes the family-friendly mentality. I would, however, like for it to extend to two days (which was something we discussed this time around) simply because there is just so much to do.

Even though I had less official responsibilities during the Con this year, I packed so much more in:

  • Networked with vendors for more potential campaign incentives/giveaways
  • Learned how to play a new board game the kids picked out (and I swear they picked out the most complex one…)
  • Grabbed some audio from a VGM concert
  • Recorded a podcast with the person that put on said concert
  • Watched my youngest ham it up as Pikachu during the kids’ cosplay contest
  • Watched my kids play a game called Ducks in Space over, and over, and over, and…
  • Played a demo of Code Zodiac (a game a guy is doing in his spare time!) with my oldest, who cleared the fight…and I didn’t
  • Thought my kids and Aven’s dad a dexterity game called Crokinole
  • Generally tried to make sure the kids didn’t tear the entire hotel down

I really, really hope this thing goes to two days! It is so cool to see an entire community and their families come together for a day like this and that our Extra Lifers, whom are too small to have an official Extra Life guild, pull this off.

Schedule

As I mentioned, everything was a day late because of needed MiracleCon recovery, but live streams will remain the same! No ND Sim this week as FCS games on NCAA ‘14 are snoozers.

Podcast

As I mentioned above, I do have a recording in the can. As the first of the month falls on the weekend, I’m going to release on Labor Day. So keep an eye out for Extra Voices in this space or where ever you happen to get your podcasts at!
