Maybe I Should’ve Picked Games Over Sports Fandom

I mean, video games haven’t hurt me like my favorite teams

Maybe I Should’ve Picked Games Over Sports Fandom
My oldest back in 2015, realizing I’ve cursed him with the same affliction of sports fandom that I have.

I do not know the moment in life that drove me into the life-long insanity of sports fandom. All I know is that, ever since I could remember, I lived and died with my local sports teams. When I went to Notre Dame, that carried over for the Irish as well.

As a child, I witnessed the Cowboys win three Super Bowls. I’ve seen the Stars win the Stanley Cup. I watched as Dirk Nowitzski lifted the Mavs to a title. Lost my mind when Arike Ogunbowale pulled off her incredible "Ice Twice” to lead the Irish to a Women’s Basketball title.

I’ve also watched Notre Dame, in person, get waxed by Alabama in the National Title game. Later, I repeated this pain when they played Clemson in my backyard during the playoffs. I’ve seen the Cowboys blow more playoff games than I can count (also, Dez caught it). I watched, in person, the New Jersey Devils skate the Stanley Cup. Game Six of the Rangers/Cardinals World Series is all I need to say.

This weekend, I watched both Notre Dame and the Dallas Cowboys lay the biggest of eggs in back-to-back nights. Thankfully, the Rangers won, but was terrified the bullpen would blow the massive 11-5 lead, which they sure tried to do.

After weekends like this, I truly wonder about the life decision made to give sports priority in my life when it comes to entertainment. I could’ve spent that time gaming instead. Games don’t deliver that level of disappointment and if they do, it’s easy to drop and move on to the next one. When it comes to sports, I keep coming back for the next kick to the sports junk.

The hope and goal is the same for both: a lovely kick of dopamine should things go well. Sure, in gaming I’m actively participating in that goal while everything with sports fandom is completely passive, regardless of whatever superstitious ritual I might participate in.

Putting it in that perspective, sports fandom sounds even more insane. Yet, here I am, still doing it, placing games on the back burner. There’s a whole new patch of Final Fantasy XIV and I’ve barely touched it because of football and baseball.

Logic would tell me that I’m an idiot, but you know what…I’m fine with being a big ‘ol idiot.

Go Irish. Beat Southern Cal.

Please don’t hurt me again.

Fundraising Update

This year’s total sits at $9,640 and there’s $431.93 to go for the next incentive shot, the Triforce of Courage (Goldschlagger, Midori, Absinthe float). When I consume that shot, we’ll have over $10,000 raised on the year. Let’s hit it soon!

The all time total: $78,281.83—that’s going to top $80,000 before I know it!

Schedule

Bumping the VoD schedule back a day. Honestly, trying to edit over the weekend was something I should’ve known wouldn’t work too well with kids’ sports, football, and well, just needing to recharge. Except this cadence going forward with any Crowd Control Highlights sprinkling in the Monday slot.

Speaking of Crowd Control, I’m eyeing the 20th or 27th, but need to figure a couple life things out to see which date will work better.
