Final Fantasy III Kicks off Tonight

$5 is all it costs to create chaos.

Final Fantasy III Kicks off Tonight

Final Fantasy III has eluded me as the one mainline Final Fantasy that I’ve never finished. I dabbled with the 3D remake, but never really dedicated the time to finishing the game on the 3DS.

Tonight, at 9 PM CST, that changes.

With the new quality of life changes that the Pixel Remasters have brought, in particular the ability to speed up random encounters and quick saves, I’m excited to give this another go. From what little I’ve heard, this is a fantastic rendition of the original, which has never really seen the light of day in the States (officially at least).

The only downside to playing a game that I haven’t completed is figuring out donation incentives. I don’t believe there are any super-bosses or “easy mode” methods in this game, but what I do know from the limited play time I’ve had is that job/class changes are vital in the game—so much so that you flat out can’t progress without certain jobs.

With that in mind, I will do something similar as Final Fantasy II. Instead of weapon swaps, I will have forced job changes. Instead of swapping every hour when banked, the swaps will happen every fifteen minutes. Instead of it costing $25, the job swaps will bank at every $5. Just like in Final Fantasy II the jobs will be chosen by dice rolls.

Here’s the kicker: this is the only way that I can change jobs. If I find myself stuck, I have three options:

  1. Beg for your donations to help/wait for the next banked change
  2. Donate $5 myself for another dice roll
  3. Donate $25 myself to change to a job of my choice

And, yes, the death tax is still in affect ($1 per character, plus $5 for a full wipe). So the donations I make will add to it. $200 maximum as with other games.

But, Tex, what happens if the death tax is capped and you are still stuck? Well, I’m glad you asked. I will then have two options to “purchase” a dice roll:

  1. Take a horrid shot of a Final Fantasy themed drink
  2. Eat something with Da Bomb hot sauce on it

If I want to choose the job, I will resurrect the 10,000 needles drink (more info on the bit in this post). The hot sauce will be chose by dice roll.

This is going to end horribly for me. Especially because I’m carrying over the leftover weapon swaps that were unused in Final Fantasy II.

I can’t wait.
