Final 2022 Stream Friday Night
Plus, a look back at the year.
I can only describe 2022 as a whirlwind. The Extra Life piece of said whirlwind concludes this Friday, December 30 at around 9pm. Game Day Giveaway winners will be announced and I will complete Final Fantasy III. Since I’ve maxed out the death tax, I will be surprised if I avoid creative drinks for job randomization re-rolls as detailed at the bottom of this post.
2022 marked the first year in which I haven’t grown Gamin’ 4 Aven, but I certainly wouldn’t call this year or any year raising money for the Children’s Health Foundation as a failure. After all, over $13k raised is no small feat.
I will say that 2022 is the year that I discovered what doesn’t work very well in streams and fundraising. Not every incentive is a great idea and not every game played will work out.
I’m looking at you, Mass Effect: Andromeda…
I have never streamed more consistently than that stretch, but everything fell off a cliff. And my stubborn self kept going, thinking the game wouldn’t keep dragging and being a bore to everyone, including myself.
Lesson learned. I gotta throw in the towel regardless if I made it an incentive. I don’t think anyone would’ve cared had I ditched Ryder and crew.
2022 also marked a year in which I did things that I’ve never tried before with Extra Life. I attended Extra Life United (and won some money for my hospital!). I found an artist to commission Twitch Emotes. I finally got a chance to go to MiracleCon in Oklahoma, which included me running a panel for the first time ever. I launched the Extra Voices podcast and actually have a list of guests that I’ll be getting on the internet air waves in the near future. I even spread my social media wings to TikTok. I also launched this Substack to keep in touch with donors.
Speaking of this Substack, if you haven’t subscribed yet, you should! It is and will always remain free!
In short, I’ve done a lot of foundation building—a heck of a lot more than I initially planned. Turns out, that my brain will keep spinning and shuttering Her Loyal Sons allowed me a hell of a lot more time to think about how to grow my Extra Life efforts. I’m more excited than ever for what the future will bring and what I can accomplish in 2023.
But I’ll talk more about my initial plans when the calendar flips over.
For now though, I’m incredibly proud of this year and I can’t thank each and every one of you heroes enough for your support. I certainly hope you will continue to support me in 2023 and/or maybe toss in some last minute support in 2022!
After all, everything donated until Dec 31, 11:59 PM MST counts!
