Extra Life United: Day 1

Gamin’ 4 Aven Is in the Money!

One tournament down. One cash out obtained!

I placed in the top five of Liar’s Dice, or more accurately, one of four people tied for second. I believe this is going to net me a four-way split of $4,200 at best or a three-way split of $2,200 at worst.

Either way, my math is good enough to know $550 - $1,050 is much better than the $0 that I walked in with!

The last time I played Liar’s Dice was via a mini-game in Red Dead Redemption. The concept is simple: everyone has a set amount of dice, your roll, covered, with the result of your roll known only to you. You then go around the table betting how many of each number was rolled by all.

Think of it like a simplified version of poker, but with a hell of a lot more bluffing.

I’d like to thank my day job for giving me the professional skill of sniffing out bullshit while dishing out a healthy amount of my own

Thanks to good ‘ol Milfy making sure a simple $100 milestone was reached, I attended movie night in a Care Bear Onesie.

No mores are needed, just this:

Streaming Schedule for the Rest of the Week!

As I mentioned yesterday, I will stream some Terra Nil at the DonorDrive booth from 3:30 PM - 5 PM EDT with a Dixper twist on Twitch.

I have also learned that YouTube doesn’t think I’m cool enough to stream via mobile devices, so make sure to follow on Twitch so you are alerted to when I go live.

At minimum, I will stream my tournament play. I finally have that schedule, so tune in at 1 PM EDT as I try to position my phone in a spot where you can see Fall Guys and 5 PM EDT (aka, very soon after I sign off from the DonorDrive booth!) for the Windjammers 2, which was the “mystery game” at ELU and one I’ve never played before!

Thursday, I will play the card drafting game, Sushi Go at 1:30 PM EDT.

There are a lot of other things going on, including a crafting station in which we will design our own super hero mask & cape. Plus, throughout the week, we’ve all been given just over $60 in “DonorDrive Bucks” to wager on friendly challenges throughout the week. At the end of ELU, we turn those in for a very real donation to our Extra Life page. Some of those, and possibly other things may end up on stream as well.

tl;dr of this section: follow me on Twitch and watch for the alerts on your mobile device! Also a picture of my schedule:

Closing Thoughts on Day 1

Honestly, crafting proper words for my thoughts and feelings about the first day feels near impossible. As the kids would say these days: the vibes are good.

It’s incredible to hear how much Extra Life has grown. Over 1,000 Extra Lifers have raised over $10,000 lifetime in their campaigns. Extra Life itself has raised over $100 million.

I’ve watched my own Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, the Children’s Health Foundation of Oklahoma City, grow Extra Life by leaps and bounds. I’m incredibly honored to be called “the top streamer” for them and, while I’d like to hold that title for as long as possible, I’m more excited to be a part of growing the program in any way I can, as well as growing Extra Life as a whole.

I can’t thank y’all enough for your donations, reading me ramble about Extra Life, or just spreading the word. I remain constantly amazed that I went from sitting on a plane for work travel, listening to a gaming podcast and thinking, “you know what, I should do this in honor of Aven next month.”

I raised $800 that year. I’ve raised well over $10,000 in each of the past two years.

I’m starting at $75,000 lifetime dead in the face right now and, if I’m being perfectly honest, I’m looking well beyond that to $100,000 lifetime by the end of 2024.

If you have any kind of inkling of wanting to get involved with Extra Life, please let me know! You never know just how big of an impact that you can have!
