$75K Celebration Stream: Drinks & Crowd Control

Time for 75oz of stupid.

As promised in Monday’s post, I am here with a quick note about how I will, uh, “celebrate” raising $75,000 all-time for Extra Life.

I actually reached out to two of my closest friends (and top donors) for some ideas. Two stuck ideas stuck out: using champagne and the number 75 somehow.

After a lot of thought, I came up with an idea: Gamer Mimosas.

75 oz of Gamer Mimosas

In my quest to dumb, I noticed that a bottle of champagne is 25 oz. That leaves 50 oz that I can add to make multiple cocktails.

Initially, I thought “more booze”, but trying to survive 75 oz of that seemed…unwise. So I thought, if I did mixers only, what could I make.

In going through our garage fridge, I found a Mtn Dew still setting around from when we had a guest over that drank it. I also had a Monster in the fridge. And then it hit me: those are stereotypical gamer drinks. I did a bit of math and realized that, with a 17 oz Mtn Dew and a 16 oz Monster, all I needed was another 17 oz of another Mtn Dew flavor and I had everything I needed.

This all sounds truly terrible and reminded me of when I first came up with these kind of drinks: it was more horrible taste and unholy combinations than strong booze. I was sold and I hope you are too.

With 25 oz of champagne, I got enough for four solid 6 oz-plus pours. Every 30 minutes, I will consume a Gamer Mimosa mixed with half of one of the Gamer Mixer (Mtn Dew, Monster, and a Mtn Dew flavor to be named later).

“But Tex, that’s only three drinks!”

Don’t worry, the fourth will be a Gamer Mimosa mixed with all three mixers, creating an abomination that made me recoil just typing that sentence.

More Ways to Crowd Control

As I mentioned on Monday, Crowd Control has made quite a few updates. The primary focus has been easier accessibility and use of the platform. For instance, using this link, at any time, will allow you to purchase coins for use on not just my Crowd Control streams, but anyone’s Crowd Control stream on any platform thanks to their new Global Coin system. No more fumbling around with the Twitch extension!

Also, Crowd Control has teamed up with Streamlabs to allow for tips sent on that platform to trigger Crowd Control effects. I haven’t used my tip page since I don’t want to cause confusion with Extra Life donations. However, in this case, I see a good use.

I know a good amount of you don’t game and/or aren’t super comfortable with using Twitch as a platform, which is fine. Just know that if you send me a tip between 9 - 12 PM CDT, you will trigger some kind of effect while I play. Specifically, these Super Metroid effects:

There’s far more effects available, but you will need to redeem those with coins live!

Don’t know what this means? Don’t worry. The magic is done in the background once your tip is in (phrasing). I’m often asked “how much to mess with you” and well, see above.

100% of all tips and Crowd Control revenue will be donated to Extra Life regardless of the method used. I will detail the final tally on Monday’s newsletter.

Maui Strong

Friendly reminder that, for Friday’s stream only, I will match all Crowd Control revenue, up to $250 out of my own pocket and send a donation to the Maui Strong Fund. If that revenue mark is hit, $250 gets donated to Extra Life and $250 to Maui Strong and both donations will be matched by my company.

You have a chance to make a $1,000 impact by messing with my playthrough!

I can’t wait for tonight, hope to see you there.
